Terms of Service

By using the SYO Platform or participating in our programmes, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Eligibility

To become an SYO member, you must:

Be aged 18-35 years
Be a resident of Siaya County, Kenya
Provide accurate personal information
Have a valid Kenyan phone number

2. Member Responsibilities

You Agree To:

Provide truthful information in applications
Participate actively in programmes you're enrolled in
Attend scheduled training sessions and meetings
Use equipment and resources responsibly
Mentor other youth after completing programmes (pay-it-forward)
Respect other members and staff

You Agree NOT To:

Submit false information or fraudulent applications
Sell or misuse equipment provided by SYO
Use the platform for illegal activities
Harass, discriminate, or harm other members
Share login credentials with others
Misrepresent SYO or speak on behalf of the organization without authorization

3. Programme Participation

Vifaa Programme

Equipment remains SYO property until full programme completion
Monthly progress reports are required
Pay-it-forward commitment: Train 2 other youth

Tech4Change Programme

Laptop financing requires monthly payments until completion
Minimum 80% attendance required
Project completion mandatory for certification

Youth Voice Programme

SYO is non-partisan—no political party affiliation
Civic activities must be lawful and peaceful

Greening Siaya Programme

Seedlings and equipment for nurseries remain SYO property initially
Environmental impact reporting required

4. Intellectual Property

Content you create (business plans, code, stories) remains yours. However, you grant SYO a license to use anonymized success stories and aggregate data for promotional and reporting purposes.

5. Termination

Grounds for Termination

Violation of these terms
Fraudulent activities
Extended inactivity (6+ months without engagement)
Failure to meet programme requirements

6. Donations

Donations are used to fund programmes and operations. Donors receive impact reports but do not receive any goods or services in return. Donations are non-refundable unless made in error.

7. Limitation of Liability

SYO provides resources and training in good faith but cannot guarantee specific outcomes. Business success, employment, or other results depend on individual effort and external factors.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms as needed. Significant changes will be communicated via the platform and email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Disputes will be resolved through mediation before any legal action.
